Anwar Ibrahim has defended the government's commitment to protecting Malay and Bumiputera interests, highlighting the gazettement of 20.23 hectares of strategic land in Bandar Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, as Malay reserve land as a key achievement.

Speaking at the 2026 Johor-level Kembara Inspirasi Belia Akar Umbi (Kibar) programme in Johor Bahru, Anwar criticised political groups that frequently champion Malay supremacy during election periods but, according to him, failed to protect Malay assets and reserve land while in government.

Anwar argued that protecting the interests of Malays and Bumiputera should be demonstrated through concrete policies rather than political slogans.

He questioned parties that often promote Malay supremacy by asking when they had last created new Malay reserve land, adding that significant areas of existing Malay reserve land had been lost over time.

According to Anwar, genuine commitment should focus on preserving and expanding strategic assets for future generations rather than using the issue solely for political support during elections.

Bandar Malaysia Gazetted as Malay Reserve Land

As evidence of the current administration's commitment, Anwar announced that the government has gazetted 20.23 hectares of land within the Bandar Malaysia development as Malay reserve land.

He described the move as the first of its kind since Malaysia's independence, involving a strategically located parcel within the former Sungai Besi Air Base redevelopment.

Bandar Malaysia is one of the country's largest mixed-use development projects, with an estimated gross development value (GDV) of RM140 billion.
